FAQs for Academic Tutoring

We offer academic support in almost every middle and high school subject, from basic Reading and Math to AP Calculus and Physics, and everything in between. Here’s our full academic course offering – if you don’t see something listed, please ask! We also offer college and graduate subject support.

All of RTC’s tutors are carefully selected for their intuitive, innate teaching talent, their empathy and ability to connect with students, and their exceptional content knowledge. Many of our tutors are in Philadelphia, where our company is physically located; as a national company that serves our students virtually, we also have exceptional tutors across the country.

Our student onboarding process is very thorough. After our preliminary consultation with a parent, we ask the family to tell us about your student and their needs in our online platform, TutorCruncher. From there, we’ll have an interview with your student to get to know them, their strengths, and their learning needs. We are very thoughtful in our tutor matches, and we are happy to hear from a family if they would like a different tutor match.

We became entirely virtual in 2020, which empowered us to both serve students across the country and to hire the best team members! Before that, we had always tutored virtually when needed, so we had the data that told us virtual 1-2-1 tutoring was just as engaging and effective as in-person tutoring. We are excited to match students with their best teacher, regardless of distance.

An additional convenience of virtual tutoring is that tutors and students can sign on to lessons instantly, which means that a student who needs additional resource help can reach out to an available tutor at any time.

At RTC, we pride ourselves on getting to know our students. Every student has a mosaic of needs. Since we work 1-2-1 with students, we don’t tend to think of any of these as “special” needs – every child has unique needs, and our tutors are equipped to meet them.

Academic tutoring appointments usually vary in duration from 45-120 minutes, and each lesson length is customized to the student’s needs. Minimum lesson length is 30 minutes, and RTC tutors log lessons in 5-minute increments so that your student receives the exact lesson time they need.
